When Will AI Education Officially Enter Schools? Vietnam's Roadmap

Short answer: Vietnam is currently at the pilot stage — the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has issued a digital competency framework (Circular 02/2025/TT-BGDĐT) along with a pilot content framework for AI education for school-age students, but there's no mandatory nationwide rollout date yet. What has already been officially issued
- Circular 02/2025/TT-BGDĐT (Jan 24, 2025): defines a digital competency framework for learners, in which "applying AI" is one of 6 official competency domains.
- Pilot content framework for AI education: built around 4 knowledge strands (human-centered thinking, AI ethics, applied AI techniques, and AI system design), currently being piloted with school-age students.
- Separate principles for primary school: MOET has emphasized that AI education at the primary level must be "pressure-free" — a gentle, visual, experience-based approach.
Why is it still a "pilot" and not yet nationwide?
Bringing a new subject or competency into the official curriculum takes time: developing standardized materials, training teachers, and testing in a select group of schools before scaling up. This is the normal process for any curriculum change — not a sign that the policy isn't being taken seriously.
