5 AI Projects Your Child Can Finish in 1 Hour — & Actually Walk Away With Something Real

With AI, that's entirely possible. In just 60 minutes, your child can build an AI-powered game, an image classifier, a chatbot, or a one-of-a-kind AI picture.

Project #1: Smile Detector Game (30 minutes)

What your child will build: A game where AI detects when your child is smiling and scores points.

Tool: Google Teachable Machine (free)

Steps:

• 1. Go to teachablemachine.withgoogle.com
• 2. Choose "Image Project"
• 3. Create 2 classes: "Smiling" and "Not Smiling"
• 4. Take photos of yourself smiling (20-30 photos)
• 5. Train the model
• 6. Test it — turn on the webcam and watch the model recognize it
